Lime Mortars

Most failings of old renderings are attributable to water penetration, usually resulting from lack of maintenance or inadequate protection from the elements. In addition, errors in techniques and poor materials used to correct failures often contribute to the deteriation they set out to correct.

Advantages of Natural Hydraulic Lime Render

Fast setting – Hydraulic lime can be used as efficiently as modern cement No shrinkage – shrinkage cracks in mortar and renders are virtually eliminated due to its hydraulic setting characteristics Breathable – Hydraulic lime is breathable absorbing and evaporating moisture to surrounding masonry Sympathetic – Hydraulic lime is softer than modern cement. A softer mortar will not wear away surrounding masonry Aesthetic – Hydraulic lime renders carry a charming, traditional appearance.

The Williams Restoration team took on the whole job, from removing the cement render through to re-decoration. There's no avoiding the fact that this type of work is messy and sometimes noisy, but they tried hard to minimise nuisance to ourselves and our neighbours. They did a good job, and the facade now looks very smart and authentic.
